Kakching, September 30 2021:
As part of the ongoing agitation launched by All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) and its federating units against the recruitment process for filling up vacant posts in different departments of Autonomous District Council (ADC) before holding election, Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC) and its federating units have halted issuance and submission of application forms.
Large number of volunteers of NSUC and its federating units stormed ADC Chandel office located at Mpnsang Pantha and locked the room where application forms for the recruitment were being issued and submitted.
A team of Chandel police rushed to the ADC office complex upon hearing the news and tried to push back the agitating volunteers which led to a brief chaotic situation.
ATSUM information and publicity secretary Angte Shang told media persons on the sidelines of the protest that recruitment for vacant posts in the ADCs should be done by the respective ADCs and asked as to why recruitment process is being initiated when there is no elected member of ADCs.
Though MOU for conduct of ADC election and completion of all election processes by June 25 this year was signed but the government of Manipur is yet to conduct the election till date, he pointed out, adding that initiation of recruitment process when there is no elected ADC member is akin to looting rights of the tribal.
ATSUM will never accept the ongoing recruitment process and hence launched the stir in coordination with the people, Angte Shang said and declared ban on recruitment process before holding ADC election.
He also said that local mother tongue should be included as eligibility criteria for recruitment process as this has become part of the New Education Policy Act.
