Food processing training concludes

A month-long residential training course on food processing organized by the Rural Education and Action for Change, Manipur (REACH-M) under the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Chandel has concluded today at the resource training hall of REACH-M, Nungourok village, reports our correspondent.
The valedictory function of the training programme was graced by Chandel DC Robert Kshetrimayum Singh and secretary of REACH-M M Tongpao Haokip as the chief guest and functional president.
Certificates were also distributed to all the trainees by the DC.
Processed food items like fruits, bamboo shoot, chicken pickles and several other fruit juices made by the trainees were also inspected.
Around 30 unemployed youths from the villages of border area under Tengnoupal and Machi Sub-Divisions took part in training programme.
Speaking at the function, Robert Kshetrimayum Singh said that skill development is a must in our society in order to come up with various ways to generate income rather than depending only in agriculture related occupation.
He also maintained that development of skills is one of the means to lessen the problems of unemployment and poverty.
Robert Kshetrimayum further stated that Manipur is well endowed with natural resources and there are various prospects for development.
Therefore, the Government has launched many skill developmental schemes for youth.
Besides that, NGOs too have to play an important role by organizing such skill development training, added the DC.
