Kangpokpi, October 18 2022:
The South Changoubung Village Authority in Kangpokpi district has issued strict information concerning its village boundary (demarcation line) with its neighbouring villages such as T Khullen, Ningthoupham, Pungtang, M Thana, Hengbung, Thonglang, Chawangkining, Maohing, West Haipi etc.
The VA notification stated that according to Kuki customs and traditions, no land is to be disposed off or sold without the consent of the village chief, and if any transaction of even a piece of land has been carried out without the knowledge of the village chief (Hausa), it will be seen as an act against Kuki customs and tradition, which will invite socio-economic sanctions and the like on the culprits from the clan leaders and villagers, it added.
Even if there is any known 'Land Sale Deed' or similar agreements about land belonging to Changoubung Village, the same will not be recognized by the people of Changoubung and the VA, it added.
Therefore, if any land is even sold to a particular buyer, there should be no construction of any kind of infrastructure or practice of cultivation on that plot of land as it will infringe on the traditional rights and privileges of the people of Changoubung Village, it further stated.
The South Changoubung VA also stated that the information is issued for mutual understanding with the neighbouring villages to prevent any untoward misunderstanding and finally to maintain peaceful co-existence.
It continued to state that any such case of an outsider intending to purchase/acquire land from Changoubung Village without the consent of the Chief of the village and the VA will not be entertained or recognized at any cost.
