Manipuri Language Day observed in Bangladesh

The 31st Manipuri Language Day was observed in Bangladesh at an event organised by Manipuri Language Research and Development Organization, Bangladesh to celebrate the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India on August 20 .
The function was held at the Manipuri Kangsang located at Nayapatand, Bhanugach in Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar district in Bangladesh with the slogan of "Lets speak our mother tongue, write in our mother tongue, love our mother tongue" .
The event was attended by AK Seram, president, Manipuri Language Research and Development Organization; Professor Amar Yumnam, former VC in-charge, Manipur University; Soram Manikanta Singh, retd Addl Director, Health Services, Govt of Manipur; Jinen Laishramcha, Assistant Professor, University of Seoul, South Korea; Dr Homen Thangjam, Assistant Professor, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University and L Jayantakumar Singh, president, Manipur Cultural Complex, Bangladesh.
The function was moderated by renowned poet Nambram Shankar.
Other notable guests present include L Ibohal Shyamal, general secretary, Manipuri Language Research and Development Organization; writer Md Abdus Samad; journalist Pranit Ranjan Devnath; Aheibam Ranjit, poet and vice-president, Manipuri Language Research and Development Organization and Hamom Tanubabu, Director, Chaoba Memorial Manipuri Intellectual Property Museum.
Many notable poets also read out their poems as a part of the function.
In his introductory speech, AK Seram shared the origin of Manipuri Language Day with the gathering.
Following this, Manipuri Language Research and Development Organization awarded Brindarani Sinha and Konthoujam Shilpi with a crest and shawl in acknowledgement of their contribution towards imparting Manipuri Language education in Bangladesh.
Speakers at the event also called for formal recognition of Manipuri language by the Government of Bangladesh and its inclusion in the country's constitution.
