Imphal, August 22 2022:
While welcoming chief minister N Biren Singh-led government's 'War on Drug' mission, Shiv Sena Manipur unit president M Tombi has strongly called for reviewing ongoing efforts to uproot drugs and intoxicants from the state.
Addressing media persons on Monday at its Babupara office here, Shiv Sena state president M Tombi said that the party has been extending support to the government's 'War on Drug' mission.
However, drugs and intoxicants continue to be available easily at every nook and corner of the state testifying that the government is unable to stop it, he said while suggesting that chief minister Biren review the anti-drug campaign.
The state loses around Rs 200 crore every year due to non-legalisation of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) but IMFL continues to be available in the state.
In view of the government's inability to effectively enforce prohibition on sale of IMFL and loss of huge revenue, a discussion in this regard could be held with anti-drug campaigners like AMADA and CADA to work out alternative means, he said and urged civil societies to launch drives to stop sale of liquor at localities and in Imphal area.
According to M Tombi, BJP and Shiv Sena are natural alliances and both have reached an understanding to go together again after a brief separation.
He also said that Shiv Sena will take part in the municipal and local bodies elections both at the hills and in the valley and priority will be given to women candidates belonging to ST, SC and Muslim communities.
Shiv Sena Manipur unit vice president M Tiken, who also attended the press conference, expressed strong concern over adulteration of essential items being sold in shops and appealed to all concerned to stop adulteration of foods and other essential items.
He then warned that the party might take up drive against shops if adulteration of food items stops before the municipal and local bodies' elections is not stopped.
