War on Drugs : Biren holds meet with police, law officials

Chief Minister N Biren Singh today presided a meeting of senior police and law officials regarding the Government's War on Drugs ad drug related issues in the State.
The concerned officials have been directed to take stringent measures to tackle drug-related issues effectively, Biren said.
Taking to Twitter, the CM wrote, "I convened a special meeting of all senior police and law officials to discuss some critical matters regarding the War on Drugs, have given some very strict instructions for dealing with all drug-related matters " .
Earlier on May 18, the Chief Minister claimed that the War on Drugs 2.0 is a massive success.

He stated that law enforcement agencies seized illegal drugs worth over Rs 182 crore in the international market and arrested as many as 140 drug traffickers since March 20 .
"The arrested traffickers include international drug kingpins and many of them are serving jail terms of 14-15 years," he said.
The Chief Minister also said that the law enforcement agencies destroyed a total of 380 acres of poppy cultivation in two months.
N Biren also said that almost all the communities of the State have pledged their support to the Government's War on Drugs.
On May 6, the Poumai tribe declared all the areas under them as a drug-free zone and said they will stand against poppy plantations.
Subsequently, many other tribes and communities made similar declarations and pledged support to the Government's War on Drugs.
"Today we can see support and cooperation from almost all communities residing in the State," the Chief Minister stated.
"For the first time in February 2021, in support of the War on Drugs, a village in Ukhrul, Peh (Paoyi) voluntarily destroyed poppy cultivation in their area, for which the village was rewarded with Rs 10 lakh", Biren said.
He said that drugs valued at Rs 4,040 crore have been seized while 2,536 people were arrested and 1,930 cases registered in the past few years.
