Wide scale protests held against CCpur gangrape case

BPR/KAK/TBL, August 11 2023: Wide scale sit-in protests were held at Bishnupur, Kakching and Thoubal districts today strongly denouncing the horrific gangrape of a Meitei woman by Kuki men at Churachandpur district on May 3, the day when the violence erupted in the State after the Tribal Solidarity March.

Urging the authorities concerned to handover the case of gangrape to CBI and demanding stringent punishments for the culprits involved in the act echoed throughout the protests.

The protestors sought the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister N Biren Singh to take due cognizance of the issue and take up immediate measures to provide befitting punishment to all culprits involved in the gruesome act of outraging the modesty of the Meitei woman.

It may be noted that the case came into light when the victim filed a zero FIR with the Bishnupur Women Police Station on August 9 in connection with the incident.

Bishnupur
Massive protest demonstrations were held across Bishnupur district against the Churachandpur gangrape case.

Sit-in protests were carried out at Moirang Lamkhai by womenfolk of different localities of Moirang; Saiton Keithel by AMAWOVA Saiton Unit and Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Saiton Gram panchayat; Ithai Wapokpi Bailey Bridge Makhong by Ithai Wapokpi Mahila Mandal in Kumbi AC; Sangai Ethnic Park main gate by Moirangkhunou Makha Leikai, Maning Leikai and Mayai Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup; Moirang Okshongbung Makha Leikai ; Phubala Keithel and areas of Phubala along the Tiddim road.

Similar protests were also held at Ningthoukhong Keithel, Toupokpi, Potshangbam, Bishnupur Keithel and Nambol among others.

Kakching
Condemning the brutal act of gangrape of a Meitei women by Kuki men, womenfolk of Kakching Chumnang Leikai Maning Apunba Nupi Lup staged a sit-in in front of Kakching Chumnang Leikai Leibaklei Gas Service. The protestors demanded the gangrape case should be handed over to CBI to ensure a speedy and fair trial.

Placards which read, 'We condemn the brutal act of Kuki militants outraging the modesty of a Meitei woman', 'Stop crime against women', 'Provide stringent punishment to the culprits of gangrape', 'Government should deliver fair trial setting aside communal differences' etc.

In line with the above demands, Yelhoumee Kanba Lup-Keirak,Wabagai, Hiyanglam, Khoidum and Sekmaijin staged a protest at Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai Keithel.

Protests were also held at Yangdong Community Hall; Lamjao, Laimanai Lamkhai, Langmeidong Awang Leikai and Kakching Lamkhai as well.

Meanwhile, Ching Tam Nupi Apunba Lup ( China Lup) Pallel and Apunba Meira Paibi Pallel in separate press notes condemned the act and demanded befitting and stringent punishment for the culprits.

Thoubal
Demanding stringent punishment for the perpetrators involved in the heinous act of gangrape of a Meitei woman, a sit-in protest was staged at Thoubal Wangmataba Devi Mandop by the Meira Paibis of Thoubal Municipal Council Ward no1 and 2 today.

Voicing similar demands, protests were also staged at Khongjom Papal Lamkhai; Wangjing Keithel by blocking half of Asian Highway organised by All Wangjing Lamding Kairembikhok Committee (AWALA KACO); Waithou Keithel organised by Waithou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup; Kshetrileikai Community Hall organised by Thoubal Kshetrileikai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup; Community hall of Social Economic And Development Organisation (SEDO)Yairipok Keithel jointly organised by SEDO and All Yairipok Apunba Ima Lup in association with Meira Paibis of Yairipok; Yairipok Huidrom Leikai Waiting shed jointly organised by Youth Progressive Club and Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Yairipok Huidrom Leikai; Charangpat Mayai Leikai community hall by Meira Paibis; Thoubal Sabaltongba Awang Leikai jointly organised by Rural Development Association, Thoubal Sabaltongba Awang Leikai and Meira Paibis; Nongpok Sekmai; Salungpham Mamang Panthoibi Bazar and Langmeithet Community hall.

Condemning the heinous act meted out to the Meitei woman by a group of Kuki men, Angtha Apunba Meira Paibi Lup held a protest at Yairipok Angtha Khongnangkhong in Andro Assembly Constituency in Imphal East district.
