Kangpokpi, August 11 2023:
The demand of the Kuki-Zo people for imposition of President's Rule in the strife-torn Manipur to pave the way for a separate administration gained momentum during a candlelight vigil in Kangpokpi town.
The Kuki-Zo people across Kangpokpi district observed a candlelight vigil to mark the 100 days of the alleged "ethnic cleansing" of Kuki-Zo people in Manipur at Brig M Thomas ground in Kangpokpi district headquarters.
Young and old, men and women, who participated in the candlelight vigil, also laid wreaths at the bottom of the "Wall of Remembrance", where photos of Kuki-Zo people martyred in the ethnic cleansing were put up to pay tribute and honour.
Candles were also lit around the Wall of Remembrance, while a candle each and a mobile torch each were lighted to show tribute to the Kuki-Zo martyrs.
Kuki-Zo motivational song of unity, delivering encouragement speeches from various Kuki-Zo prominent leaders and CoTU leaders, ordeals of the martyrs and victims' families, etc., were the main highlights of the event.
Reverend Sholal led the mass prayer ceremony after his motivational sermon during the event.
Speaking to the media, CoTU's Media Cell coordinator Ng Lun Kipgen said that the Kuki-Zo people in Kangpokpi district are commemorating 100 days of atrocities upon the Kuki-Zo people in Manipur.
However, it is pertinent to mention that the candlelight vigil is purely intended to show our solidarity and support to the martyrs and victims' families and give them a message that we, as a Kuki-Zo family, are with them.
As a message to the central government on the 100 days of ethnic cleansing upon the Kujci-Zo people, we reiterated our demand for President's Rule in Manipur and appealed to look into our demand for a separate administration at the earliest, he added.
