Jiribam, August 11 2023:
The 36-hour NH 37 bandh called by district's organisations for staying the transfer order of SP Jiribam M Pradip began from 6 am on Friday.
The NH 37 shutdown was enforced after the memorandum submitted to chief minister N Biren by Peace Committee, Jiribam along with meira paibi groups and CSOs of various communities demanding revoking of SP Jiribam transfer order was not acted upon.
During the bandh, all vehicles remained off the NH 37 road, while no unwanted incident was reported.
On the other hand, the indefinite public curfew called by LEECHING, Jiribam demanding that SP Jiribam should apologise for using derogatory words and for his misbehaviour against the public during a planned peace rally which was stopped by the police on Thursday was also imposed in the district on Friday.
The public curfew supporters blocked various roads in the district including NH 37 by burning tyres, piling up timbers & bamboos along with burning of SP Jiribam's effigy and chanting slogans like 'We condemn SP Jiribam's action', 'SP Jiribam should apologise', 'Jiribam's peace broken by SP Jiribam, etc.
The agitators also stopped movement of vehicles of security forces including police and CRPF during the public curfew.
