6523 FIRs registered in connection with state crisis

A total of 6523 First Information Reports (FIRs) was registered by the state police in connection with the ethnic violence in Manipur, outlined a status report submitted by the Manipur Government to the Supreme Court.
According to the report which was submitted in connection with a Special Leave Petition (SLP) and other petitions filed at the apex court, a total of 6523 FIRs were registered in different police stations during the ethnic violence, which began on May 3, upto July 10.Among this, 72 FIRs were for murder cases, three for rape/gang rape, one for gang rape and murder, six for outraging the modesty of women and children, 4454 for arson, 4148 for arson and robbery (includes merged FIRs), 4698 destruction of houses (arson and robbery), 584 for destruction of public property, 46 for destruction of religious places and 100 cases related to injury.
Among the registered FIRs, 4766 are regular FIRs registered by the police stations concerned, 11414 zero FIRS, 10382 zero FIRs which were later transferred to the police stations concerned, and 6621 zero FIRs registered as regular FIRs by the police stations concerned.
The status report further informed that testimonies/statements of 193 witnesses were recorded in connection with cases related to rape, murder and attempted rape of women; statements of three victims were recorded and 16 accused arrested, who were sent to jail; 14 people arrested for arson, robbery and destruction of property and statements of 1366 witnesses recorded; statements of 10 witness were recorded in connection with destruction of religious places but no arrests made; and 12 people were arrested for grievous hurt, while 56 eyewitness statements recorded.
