HC admits petition against Moreh arson

Imphal, August 11 2023:
The High Court of Manipur heard and admitted a petition filed against burning of Meetei houses in Moreh by Kuki mobs.
The petition filed by one Kh Devbrata sought legal actions against officials, who are responsible for protecting the properties.
In the PIL, the petitioner submitted that abandoned houses in Moreh which belong to Meetei community were burned and properties were looted recently in violation of two interim orders issued by the High Court, which advised the government authority concerned to protect abandoned houses and properties.
The petitioner submitted that the incident was a result of the failure of government authority to enforce law and order.
The PIL has CO of Assam Rifles who is in-charge of Moreh town, SP Tengnoupal, and officials of the ministry of home affairs as primary respondents.
After admitting the PIL, the High Court has listed the hearing for August 31 .
