Imphal, August 11 2023:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking about Manipur for only a minute or two in his nearly two hour long speech on no-confidence motion is an insult to the people of the strife-torn State, charged CPI, Manipur State Council.
Speaking to the media at Irabot Bhavan today, former secretary of CPI-MSC L Sotinkumar said that the Prime Minister not saying anything in particular to bring a lasting solution to Manipur is very unfortunate.
Manipur has been burning for over the last three months with thousands of people both young and old including children displaced, houses torched, people killed but the Prime Minister had only a minute or two to spare and talk about Manipur in his nearly two-hour long speech, he rued.
If that is not a disrespect to the people of Manipur than what is, Sotinkumar asked, referring to the Modi speech in the Lok Sabha.
Saying that Opposition block INDIA raised the no-confidence motion specifically to make the Prime Minister speak on Manipur violence, Sotinkumar maintained that the MPs of the Opposition walked out from the House yesterday as the Prime Minister spent over one and a half hour in criticising the Opposition parties.
The Left wing leader also said that the Manipur violence could have been stopped in the initial stage had the Centre controlled the armed infiltrators from Myanmar and Kuki militants under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact.
The violence spiralled out of control because the conduct of Kuki militants weren't monitored properly, Sotinkumar charged and added that the Prime Minister won't have summed up his speech on Manipur in just a few minutes if he takes the situation in the State seriously.
He then appealed to the Prime Minister to announce some policy and programme to break the cycle of violence in the State.
President of All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) M Sakhi asked why not a single MP from Manipur spoke about the situation in Manipur at Parliament.
