KCP-MC-Pro calls gen strike on Aug 15

Apart from de daring boycott of India's Independence Day celebration in Manipur, the armed Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Council-Progressive (KCP-MC-Progresive) has imposed general strike on August 15 .
The general strike to be effective from 6 am to 11 pm on August 15 will not cover emergency services like fire, medical, electricity and media, a KCP MC-Progressive statement said.
According to the KCP-MC-Progressive, the British occupied Manipur on April 27, 1891 but left on August 14, 1947 .
With the regaining of sovereignty, Manipur conducted election based on adult franchise and subsequently had a democratically elected government in 1948 with the then king Bodhachandra Maharaj as the constitutional head of the nation.
However, India forced king Bodhachandra to sign on merger agreement at Shillong in 1949 and thus Manipur came to be part of India till date, the KCP- MC-Progressive statement said.
While appealing to people of Manipur particularly younger generation to understand fully that India gained its independence on August 15, 1947 but held its first general election in 1952 while Manipur got its independence on August 14, 1947 and held general election in 1948, the KCP-MC-Progressive asked the entire indigenes of Manipur to lid candle at the gates of their houses on August 14 evening to forge unity.
