Army initiates empowerment programme

Imphal, February 18 2024:
Indian Army in collaboration with the State Handicraft Department initiated women empowerment programme at Phougakchao in Bishnupur district on Sunday.
In a release, PRO Defence informed that the joint effort is aimed at training women of Phougakchao and adjoining area in the field of handlooms and weaving.
Indian Army facilitated the collection of handlooms from Naransena, Nambol and Imphal.
Stores were provisioned for women of far flung villages, despite the unrest in the region.
The initiative saw participation of 35 women from local villages.
SDC Kumbi Ranjan Wahenbam and SDC Pukhrambam Rakeshchand jointly handed over a cheque of Rs 35,000 to the women for fostering their skills.
State Handicraft Department supported the initiative and handed over the yarn for the project, the PRO said.
Meanwhile, continuing its efforts of providing support to the locals, the Indian Army provided hygiene and sanitation stores at Leimaram relief camp in Bishnupur district.
