Thoubal, June 21 2023:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has no right to talk about 'peace and harmony' in the US when a State in his own country is burning, said a Meira Paibi today boycotting Yoga Day.
A large number of Meira Paibis in Thoubal blocked half the road (NH-102) and burnt effigies of the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
While many Meira Paibi representatives, leaders of different political parties, MLAs and Ministers had gone to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister since the past few days, they were ignored and not given an appointment, said one of the Meira Paibis.
Instead of meeting the representatives of the people on Manipur crisis, the Prime Minister chose to lead a Yoga session to the United States and talk about unity, peace and health.
It is appalling.
He shouldn't talk about peace when a State in his own country is burning and people are dying daily for over a month, she said.
The woman continued that the PM not giving the appointment to the representatives of the people of Manipur is a humiliating slap on the face of the State Government and every Manipuris.
Notably, several MLAs, leaders of different political parties and communities, nearly 100 of them had gone to Delhi a few days ago before PM's US visit.
While the women beat the PM's and others' effigies with chappals today at Thoubal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was leading a Yoga session at the New York Headquarters of the United Nations.
The sit-in protest demonstration was organised jointly by the Thoubal Apunba Lup, a body for more than 30 local clubs and Meira Paibi Lups.
One of the women, Sanjenbam Sorojini said the violence that started on May 3 has not ended and the Central Government has dont nothing to bring an end to it.
It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister has not said a word about Manipur till today.
Instead of talking about the crisis and taking up effort to bring peace, the PM has gone to the United States to preach peace and health, she said.
The Prime Minister preaching peace and harmony in the US has no meaning when he can't even solve the over one month old crisis in a small State like Manipur, Sorojini said.
The people strongly condemn the silence of the PM and Chief Minister N Biren Singh for not doing enough.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged for peace and advised against spreading rumours, but he has not said and done anything beside this, she added.
State BJP leader A Sarda is a woman and is in Delhi.
But she has not once joined the womenfolk on the streets at night.
She should be condemned, Sorojini said.
The womenfolk, during the protest, said they will continue to stage more stringent demonstrations until the Prime Minister's "deliberate and temporary hearing loss is cured" .
