Imphal, June 21 2023:
Six student bodies of the state have stated that the nine MLAs, who submitted the memorandum to the Prime Minister amid the demand to central leaders for withdrawing Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militants and strict action against the same, will be held responsible if President's Rule (PR) is imposed in Manipur.
Addressing a press meet held at MSF's Kwakei-thel office on Wednesday, spokespersons of the stu dent bodies, Sukham Bidy-ananda said that while it was important for all Meitei MLAs to stand and work together to bring about a solution to the prevailing violence in the state, nine MLAs, in a seemingly self-vested way of taking political advantage, sub mitted a memorandum to the PM, which is condem nable.
The memorandum sub mitted by the nine MLAs is an invitation for imposition of PR in Manipur, with the contents highlighting the people's loss of faith in the administration of the state government and request to the centre to take up special measure to ensure Rule of Law and proper administration in the state.
The MLAs should clarify to the people if their wish is to topple the publicly mandated government or to ensure PR is imposed in the state.
While there may internal strife within BJP, the same must not overshadow their responsibilities to the state, especially amid the tension, he remarked.
Bidyananda further said that it is not the time for the leaders to take political advantage and the disunity amongst the Meitei MLAs when Kuki militants are violating ground rule of SoO and killing innocent civilians cannot be forgiven by the people.
If PR is imposed in the state due to the memorandum submitted by the nine MLAs, they will be held responsible, he cautioned.
He then said that all the MLAs presently stationed in Delhi should keep aside their differences, regardless of being in the ruling or opposition, and work together to press upon the central leaders for withdrawal of SoO with Kuki militants in the interest of the people of Manipur.
