Kukis oppose IRB unit at Serou Lamkhai

The Joint Kuki-Zo Students' Organisations of Sugnu Hill Area strongly opposed the proposed sta -tioning of one IRB battalion at Serou Lamkhai to facilitate resettlement of Meetei people in the area and said that such a move should not be made until proper rehabilitation programme and arrangements are made for the Kuki-Zo people of Sugnu area.
In a statement, the Organisations said a video was shared on YouTube social media platform whereby Sugnu MLA K Ranjit Singh shared his side of the story regarding a Peace Talk initi ated by the Chingtam Peace Committee in Sugnu.
In the,, video, K Ranjit appealed to the Meetei people of Sugnu constituency to resettle in their respective homes as soon as possible with the assurance that a battalion of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) would be stationed at Serou Lamkhai.
The joint organisations also condemned MLA, K Ranjit for not upholding the peace talk he spearheaded at the end and asked the MLA about the role of Sugnu police station in breaching the peace talk in the wee hours May 28 .
It also condemned the MLA, Sugnu police and Sugnu Meetei populace for branding tribal village volunteers as militants and charged the MLA of aiding in burning down of Kuki-Zo houses and Churches.
The statement further said that the Kuki-Zo people of Sugnu area are compelled to think the so-called peace talk by K Ranjit as an effort to buy time and prepare to annihilate the Kuki-Zo people.
