Thoubal, June 21 2023:
Coming down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's US visit and lecturing on peace and harmony while completely ignoring the violence in the state, thousands of thoubal denizens observed 'No Yoga Day in Manipur' at Thoubal Melaground and by blocking one side of NH102 (Imphal -Moreh) highway.
Protestors also set on hre effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union home minister Amit Shah and chief minister N Biren after whipping the effigies with sandals.
The protest was organised under the aegis of Thoubal Apunba Lup, an apex body of 30 clubs and Meira Paibi organisations.
Sanjenbam Sorojini, one of the protestors, strongly condemned silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi even after 48 days of violence in the state, which has claimed over 110 lives, injured many and left over 50,000 homeless.
His silence shows the indifferent attitude of the PM and his government towards the state and its people.
They strongly condemn his message of peace and harmony by visiting US while a state in his own country is burning.
They also condemned chief minister N Biren for not taking up any stern action against the perpetrators but simply appealing for peace and not to spread rumours, Sorojini said.
She further said that Meira Paibi organisations across the state also condemn the absence of BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sar-da in the series of protest organised by women community of the state on the pretext of consulting central leaders in Delhi.
She also said that more and more intense agitation will follow until the Prime Minister speaks up and takes effective measures to contain the violence and restore peace in the state.
