Imphal, June 21 2023:
As many as six student bodies including MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS have questioned the implications of the memorandum submitted by nine MLAs to the Prime Minister a few days back.
Speaking to media persons at the Kwakeithel office of MSF today, Sukham Bidyananda, speaking on behalf of the six student bodies, remarked that the nine MLAs chose to submit the memorandum by themselves even though the situation calls for unity among all the Meitei MLAs.
The nine MLAs seemed to be seeking personal political advantage by submitting the memorandum separately, he said.
Questioning the implications of the memorandum which reportedly said that the people have lost faith in the State Government, apart from urging the Central Government to take up special measures in order to ensure rule of law and proper administration in the State, Bidyananda asked whether the nine MLAs were craving to pull down the incumbent Government and impose President's Rule in the State.
It's not the time for political leaders to seek political mileage.
Rather, it's time for all the MLAs to work collectively and urge the Centre in one voice to rein in the Kuki militants who have been killing innocent people and burning down houses by blatantly violating the SoO ground rules.
By bringing their disunity to the fore, the Meitei MLAs have committed an unpardonable offence against the people, Bidyananda said.
He then urged the nine MLAs to come out with a clarification and apology at the earliest.
He asserted that the nine MLAs should be held responsible in case President's Rule is imposed in the State.
Forgetting all their differences, all the MLAs currently stationed at Delhi should urge the Government of India in one voice to abrogate SoO and take up befitting action against the Kuki militants, Bidyananda said.
He appealed to all the MLAs to work collectively instead of working separately.
All the MLAs, irrespective of whether one belongs to the ruling parties or the Opposition bench should pull in their resources and work collectively.
The situation is still very critical and it's not a time for groupism or polarisation.
Instead of engaging in activities which look like scrambling for the seat of power, the MLAs should focus on saving the State and the people, Bidyananda added.
