Imphal, June 21 2023:
Two protestors from Manipur staged a silent demonstration holding a banner in condemnation of the silence of sports fraternity over prevailing crisis in the state.
The demonstration was staged along the route of Indian National Football Team bus before the India-Pakistan match in the SAFF Championship 2023 at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru, Karnataka on Wednesday.
The protestors decried that despite the state facing turmoil due to ethnic clashes since May 3, no words have been spoken about it by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi or by anyone in the fraternity.
Recently, the Indian Football Team wore black armbands during the Hero Intercontinental Cup to pay tribute to victims of Odisha train accident along with donating Rs 20 lakh for the victims from the reward given by Odisha chief minister.
Similarly, Indian Cricket Team also played World Test Championship Final wearing black arm bands in tribute to the accident victims, they pointed out.
In sharp contrast to such humane gestures, nothing has been said or done by sports fraternity over the prevailing situation in the state despite the home of an Indian international footballer burnt down and death of a hockey player in the violence.
