Assam Rifles apprehended two persons with brown sugar worth Rs 81.8 lakh at Pallel yesterday.
The brown sugar weighing 409 grams were found smuggled in an Auto-rickshaw by two individuals from Moreh to Sora, said PRO IGAR South.
The auto-rickshaw was intercepted yesterday at around 4 pm at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post set up at Molnoi village, Pallel.
On checking the vehicle, 11 soap cases containing brown sugar were found concealed inside a hidden compartment near the passenger seat.
The brown sugar weighed 409 grams and is estimated to be around Rs 81,80,000, said AR.
The two persons along with the brown sugar have been handed over to the Tengnoupal Police.
The Tengnoupal Police will conduct further investigation to determine the full extent of the drug trafficking operation and bring those responsible to justice, said the AR.
Since its establishment on 3 May 2023, the Mobile vehicle Check Post has been a crucial line of defense in intercepting illicit activities in the region, it said.
