It is disheartening to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintain stoic silence while the violence in Manipur, which is dearly a national issue, continues to fester even after over 45 days, said Republican Party of India (Athawale) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam.
On Tuesday, Maheshwar apprised and submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, requesting for resolving the crisis at earliest, immediate implementation of NRC in Manipur, withdrawal of SoO agreement with Kuki militants and replacing the Assam Rifles deployed in the state with another new force.
Speaking to newspersons in this regard, Maheshwar pointed out that the violence in Manipur is now a national issue, which the leaders of the BJP government should be well aware of.
He continued that even if the PM is out of the country, the other central leaders could be persuaded to act on the matter and help restore peace and normalcy in the state.
