Imphal, February 16 2024:
Manipur Tribals' Forum Delhi (MTFD) expressed deep concern and condemnation over the suspension of a Kuki tribal policeman by Churachandpur district superintendent of police (SP) Shivanand Surve.
In a release, MTFD condemned the action as abuse of power and biased implementation of the law, especially in the context of the on-going ethnic violence.
The recent suspension of the policeman by SP Shivanand Surve, juxtaposed with the lack of action against those involved in attacks on tribal communities, highlights a grave injustice and a biased implementation of law, it claimed while demanding immediate suspension of SP Shivanand Surve, followed by a thorough inquiry into the intention behind his actions.
His decision has not only resulted in the unjust suspension of a tribal policeman but has also contributed to the escalation of the situation, leading to the tragic death of two youths.
It further urged the tribal lawmakers, specifically the Members of Legislative Assembly, to exercise their authority over government servants in their respective constituencies.
