AITUC Manipur joins Nationwide protest, 'Grameen Bandh'

Joining the Nationwide protest & 'Grameen Bandh' called by Central Trade Unions and farmers' collective Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) against the "anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-national policies" of the Central Government, sit-in protests were staged at Irabot Road, Ima Keithel and Lamsang Bazar on Friday under the aegis of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur State Committee.
The sit-in held at Irabot Road, Ima Keithel was participated by AITUC Manipur working president Salam Yaima, secretary K Sanahanbi Devi, Thoubal District president U Rajahon, secretary L Bihari, Bishnupur District convenor M Mangi, All Manipur Agriculture Worker Union Manipur president N Nillakamal, All Manipur Nupi Marup general secretary L Sumatibala, former president S Sorojini Devi and Y Ranapratap Singh.

According to a release issued by AITUC Manipur, All Manipur Loumi Lup president N Singhajit, secretary H Ibobi, Manipur Silang Loumi Lup secretary Jateshwar, executive member Dr Shanta, Street Vendor Ima Panthoibi president Indira, All Manipur ASHA Workers Union president Th Purnimasi Devi, Anganwadi Workers Union convenor Th Shantibala, Manipur Barber Union secretary Papu Thakur, All Manipur Bank Employee Union leader Sh Gopeshwar Sharma and members of Communist Party of India also took part in the protest.
Speaking to the media, AITUC Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar said that the union will continue to fight the "anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-national policies" of the Central Government.
He appealed to the State and Central Government to end the present conflict and restore peace & normalcy in Manipur at the earliest and deport the Chin Kuki foreigners threatening the integrity of Manipur.
He also raised a number of demands including setting up of highway protection force to protect innocent civilians along the national highways; take strong action against armed miscreants threatening civilians along the highways; stop recruitment of Government jobs on contract & part-time basis; regularise existing contract employees, rollback GST imposed on essential commodities, give minimum support price to farmers, fix minimum wage at Rs 26,000 per month and increase MGNREGS workers' daily wage to Rs 600 .
Sotinkumar further shared that AITUC has been part of various public movements and will continue to organise/ support all movements to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Besides, the sit-in staged at Lamsang Bazar saw the participation of All Manipur Nupi Marup president M Sakhi Devi, Imphal West District AITUC coordinator M Kesho, Self Help Group leader K Shilla Devi and members of various unions.
Members of All India State Government Employees Confederation led by its president M Joykumar also took part in the protest.
