Guns of Kuki militants fall silent for time being

Imphal, February 16 2024:
Kuki militants have stopped firing towards Khamenlok Chingjao side, at least for the moment, which has been hostile since February 12 .
A team of reporters went to Khamenlok which is situated in the adjacent area of Imphal East and Kangpokpi in the evening today and they didn't hear any sound of gunshot or explosion while they were in the area.
The village volunteers also stopped firing towards the Kuki militants after the latter hoisted a white flag momentarily today.
The white flag, however, was pulled down shortly later.
Reportedly, cadres of MPA of Pambei led UNLF are still camping at Khamenlok to assist the village volunteers.
The cadres of Marjing Batallion of MPA displayed some ammunition, magazines, walkie talkie set and exhausted mortar shell which they found abandoned at Khamenlok area to the media team.
The reporters were also told that bloodstains were found at some areas of Khamenlok Chingjao.
Speaking to the media, a local of Nongshum said that the hostility at Khamenlok area has reduced to some extent following the arrival of cadres of Pambei led UNLF.
He said that the locals however can't send their children to schools or resume their work as of yet.
