Imphal, February 16 2024:
In light of over 25,000 minors affected by the Manipur crisis, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) Chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar has called for the enactment of Manipur State Policy for Children 2020 for the welfare of these vulnerable children.
The MCPCR Chairperson made the appeal during the 'Convergence Workshop Amongst Stakeholders Working in the Field of Child Rights and Education' jointly organised by MCPCR and Samagra Shiksha Manipur at Manipur Press Club today.
Addressing the gathering, Keisham Pradipkumar shared that 40% of the roughly 60,000 people displaced by the ongoing conflict are children under 18 years of age.
Today's workshop was organised with the goal of facilitating cooperation between the concerned departments to ensure that these displaced children are provided with the necessary health, educational and nutritional needs among others, he said.
Notably, he called for the enactment of the Manipur State Policy for Children 2020, the draft of which was issued on November 12, 2020 by the State Government, and announcement of a plan policy for the displaced children in both the hill and valley areas.
Keisham Pradipkumar also went on to make an appeal to people to refrain from posing impediments to child rights organisations when they take up measures for the benefit and welfare of all children, beyond the lines of caste, creed or community.
Maintaining that children are not active participants of the war, he strongly asserted that they should not be harmed or wilfully misguided.
Further, he called upon the people to ensure that children do not suffer the brutal impacts of warfare and keep both women and children exempt from such suffering.
The event was also graced by Ngangom Uttam, Director, Social Welfare and Soraisam David, Additional State project Director, Samagra Shiksha Manipur.
