Imphal, February 16 2024:
The Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union has appealed to all oil pump dealers and retail outlets to withdraw its decision to shut down business for three days given the hardship being faced by the public amid the 'war-like situation' in the State.
In a statement signed by its secretary administration Mutum Churamani Meetei, the Union said that non supply of petrol and diesel for three days will greatly disrupt the activities of essential service providers, daily wagers and students.
Further appealing to all organisations, underground outfits etc to contemplate before serving any unbearable monetary or fuel demand to retail outlets, the Union said that oil pump dealers and all those working for the wellbeing of the State must not hurt the interest of one another.
The Union continued that the public and those providing services and goods must support one another at this critical juncture.
Stating that the prolonged violence in Manipur has adversely affected the economy of the place, the Union maintained that many dealers of retail outlets and those running small factories and industries are finding it difficult to pay EMI for the loan taken and are on the verge of losing even their capital let alone make profit.
It further said that collection of tax, both legal and illegal, adds more burden to people in the business sector.
Continuing that it is the National Highways which decide the rate of goods and services in the market, the Union maintained that the Government must provide some sort of compensation to business firms.
The Union appealed to the Government to consider waiving off loan amounts invested in the business sector and give tax relief to the people.
