Protesters suspect involvement of BJYM ex-president

Along with organising a sit-in protest at Sega Road Konjeng Hajari Leikai on Monday against the firing incident on Saturday that left 5 people including a woman injured, the protestors including volunteers of Youth of Manipur, went to the residence of Manoharmayum Barish Sharma, the former president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), and demanded the stand of the family members and the locality over the alleged involvement of Barish in the incident.
During the sit-in protest organised by the JAC formed in connection with the incident, the participants used placards reading "Punish the culprits involved in the incident", "Abolish gun culture", "We condemn firing incident" and "We condemn goondaism" .
The protest was carried out till 2 pm waiting for response of the government to round up the culprits as demanded by the JAC.
As the sit-in protest agitation was on, members of YOM arrived and joined the agitation.
From there, members of YOM and the JAC and public went to the residence of Barish at Wangkhei Angom Leikai.
To prevent any unwanted incidents security personnel were already deployed in the area.
At AngOm Leikai, the protesters demanded family members and the locality to declare their stand over the alleged involvement of Barish in the firing incident, to which his wife, mother and father came out and assured to bear treatment cost of all the injured and to accept necessary punishment to Barish if he was found involved in the incident.
The locals also decided to boycott Barish and demanded that he clarify within two days.
It also assured to help the police in arresting Barish.
Meanwhile, the JAC, in a release, said that the police have informed the JAC that two persons involved in the incident have been arrested and that all perpetrators will be rounded up within short notice.
The JAC will launch various forms of agitation along with the public if the police fail to arrest the culprits at the earliest, it cautioned.
