Tanker drivers suspend stir, to resume duty

Imphal, October 16 2023:
Oil tanker drivers have agreed to suspend the cease work strike and resume normal service of transporting and unloading fuel after the State Government assured that additional Manipur Rifles and India Reserve Battalion (IRB) will now be deployed at vulnerable areas on National Highway-37 and prevent illegal collection of taxes by anti-social elements from drivers/vehicles of the IOCL/LPG TTs.
This was decided and agreed upon during a joint meeting of the Police Department, representatives of IOCL/LPG, Transporters Associations and Drivers Associations today.

The meeting was held at the office of the Additional General of Police (L&O) .
The meeting reached an agreement on four points aimed at bolstering security and safe passage of oil/gas tankers along the National Highway-37 .
Significantly, during the meeting, POL drivers' associations agreed to suspend the hands-off steering wheel strike and resume their service.
As agreed in the meeting, the Police Department will detail one senior officer in Nungba area to conduct operation and coordinate movement of convoys along NH-37 .
The Police Department assured to enhance security at vulnerable areas by deploying additional MR/IRB personnel to prevent attacks on vehicles/drivers and prevent illegal collection of taxes by anti-social elements.
The Police Department will also sensitise the CRPF and other security forces deployed enroute the NH-37 to facilitate and also provide maximum security during halt and movement of the vehicles.
Meanwhile, IGP (Ops) IK Muivah has requested the IG (Manipur & Nagaland Sector) CRPF Imphal on behalf of DGP Manipur to provide security to escort movement of loaded and empty IOCL/BPCL/LPG/FCI tankers and trucks carrying essential commodities from Imphal to Jiribam and Jirbam to Imphal tomorrow.
