Imphal, October 16 2023:
Regarding the attempts made by some people to misinterpret his statements stressing the need for all indigenous communities to discard the idea of segregating the people into hill and valley and ending all differences so that they would be able to live in harmony, Republican Party of India (Athawale) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has appealed to all concerned not to misconstrue his statements and hurt the sentiments of the other indigenous communities of the state.
Addressing a press meet at the party's office in Keishampat on Monday night, Maheshwar clarified that his previous statements called for rectifying the Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms Act, 1960 after solving the conflict orchestrated by Chin Kuki narco-terrorists and external forces; promoting peaceful co-existence in the hill areas between all communities just like in the valley areas; and discarding the idea of hill and the valley between the indigenous communities, while stating that the settlement of the Meetei community in only eight areas of the valley is unjustified.
However, he said, some people are trying to misconstrue his statements to hurt the sentiments of other indigenous community, which is highly unfortunate.
As such, he appealed to all concerned not to do such acts, stating that the people are already reeling under due to the hve-month long conflict.
The priority should be to stand united and defend against the Chin Kuki narco-terrorists who are trying to disintegrate Manipur, he asserted.
