Imphal, October 16 2023:
While pointing out that Manipur is not inhabited by a single community but numerous communities have been living together in the state since time immemorial, Forum for Restoration of Peace (FRP) convener Ashang Kasar has said that there will be no calm in Manipur if the majority community works in their own interest by virtue of their population strength.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, Monday, Ashang Kasar said that RPI Manipur leader Maheshwar Thounaojam can do whatever he feels that is good for the people of Manipur.
However, Maheshwar Thounaojam's recent remark on finishing the Kukis first and then taking on other communities later hurt the sentiments of different communities living in Manipur since time immemorial.
Which community Maheshwar is referring to for the next target is questionable as it could be Naga or Meitei-Pangal, Ashang Kasar said, adding that it would be better if Maheshwar clarify on his remark to the people and avoid making remarks which could flare up communal tension.
While maintaining that different communities have been living together in Manipur since time immemorial and many communities have been living together with peace and harmony amidst the ongoing war between two communities, Ashang Kasar said that there will be no peace and normalcy in the land if majority community works in their own interest while sidelining interests of other communities.
According to Ashang Kasar, different sections of people are working for ensuring lasting peace and harmony but it would not be good for the state if one community threatens another.
He further said that people of a community who do not want to live peacefully with different communities of the state could be considered as a community which does not love Manipur and the government should take action against such people.
Strongly condemning the incident of gun firing in populated area along Tiddim road by some unidentified people, Ashang Kasar said that the firing incident was very unfortunate as it happened at a time when different sections of the society have been working collectively for restoring peace and normalcy.
