Kakching, August 06 2023:
Committee for Peace and Social Harmony (CPSH), Kakching has appealed to the elected representatives, who are yet to exercise their power and responsibility amid the crisis situation, to resign from their post and join the people in their movement.
Addressing media persons at the relief camp set up at Indoor Stadium, Kakching Chumnang Leikai on Sunday, CPSH president Yengkhom Bheighachandra denounced the brutal killing of Yumnam Pishak, Yumnam Premkumar and Yumnam Jiten by Kuki militants at Kwakta Lamkhai while they were asleep on Saturday.
How long will the state and central government remain silent even when people are killed at homes, he enquired, while demanding central forces to leave the state if they came here to simply become an audience when Meiteis are killed, their properties destroyed.
When numerous womenfolk moved towards Torbung Bangla, Assam Rifles not only stopped them but inflicted injuries on many while central forces preferred to watch as large number of Kukis both men and women used excavators to bulldoze 100 houses of Meiteis in the area, the president further alleged.
While the government is yet to work out any effective means to end the violence many elected people's representatives seemed infatuated with media publicity, Bheighachandra opined and advised such MLAs to resign and join the people's movement.
It is desired that workers and advisors of such inactive elected representatives shoulder the responsibility to wake up their leaders from the deep slumber, he stressed.
