Jiribam, August 06 2023:
The Leeching, Jiri has lauded the Hmar Inpui, Jiribam Region for recognizing the public sentiment and bringing about the withdrawal of a statement issued by Hmar People's Convention (HPC-D) Manipur Region claiming Jiribam as Hmar land and calling for inclusion of Jiribam in the demand for separate administration.
A statement issued by L Ranjan Meitei, secretary, Leeching, Jiri has condemned HPC (D)'s statement and urged people of the State to not take the circular too gravely.
Stating that the Meitei community forms a sizeable majority of the residents in Jiribam, the statement said that they have been living with many other different communities for ages.
Jiribam has been a part of Manipur since the time of Churachand Maharaj and the attempt to distort the history of the land by some vested interests is highly condemnable.
This may drag a peaceful Jiribam into the middle of a battlefield, it said.
Leeching, Jiri conveyed that despite the series of violence that has gripped Manipur for the last three months, the region of Jiribam has remained relatively peaceful despite being inhabited by a number of different communities.
At this juncture, the circular issued by HPC (D) (who are allegedly one of the groups under SoO pact) has caused distress to the people of Jiribam.
Accusing the HPC (D) of attempting to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in Jiribam, Leeching Jiri warned that it will not remain as a mute spectator.
It also highlighted the silence and apathy of the Central and State Government to this move by a militant group under SoO agreement.
Regarding the withdrawal of HPC (D)'s circular, the HPC (D) has also expressed gratitude towards the Hmar Inpui, Jiribam Region for their consistent efforts to maintain peace in Jiribam district and declared that HPC (D) has withdrawn the statement and will support Hmar Inpui's efforts.
