Imphal, August 06 2023:
The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), Manipur has asserted that the British legacy of Divide & Rule has continued in the state of Manipur even after its merger to the Indian Union.
In a release, KKL shared that the main root causes of the present turmoil in Manipur can be traced back to the colonial policy of drawing a hard boundary between the hills and the valley which the Government of India has followed by dividing the people of the State to various categories including Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste and General.
Alleging that the Government of India has been trying to separate the people of Manipur into Hills people and Valley people, KKL said, "This is evident in the recent advice given by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to oversee the situation/solve the issues in the valley while he (Amit Shah) will take the responsibility of overseeing the situation in the hills to bring peace" .
The Lup also alleged that the assurance given by the Union Home Minister to withdraw the State Forces from Moreh during his visit on June 1, 2023, has resulted in the Kukis of Moreh carrying out many agitations to remove State Police from the area.
The Lup also alleged that the Central Forces have turned a blind eye to the atrocities committed by Kuki militants and done nothing to protect the innocent Meetei civilians.
KKL further mentioned that the State Government should take lessons from the ongoing conflict and initiate measures to prevent any individual/ groups from threatening the territorial integrity of Manipur in future.
