Imphal, August 06 2023:
Claiming that the Assembly session fixed on August 21 is only to prevent dissolution of the House, the State unit of Janata Dal (United) has asked the Central and State Government to take full responsibility for every fallout of the ongoing ethnic clashes in Manipur.
Addressing the media at Palace Compound today, chief spokesperson of JD (U) Manipur Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that they first thought the crisis could end with the simple intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Saying that situation however has worsened miserably today to the extent that even the Prime Minister couldn't bring an amicable solution, Dr Nimaichand continued that the accountability for all bloodshed and all sorts of crisis taking place in the State must be fixed on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister N Biren.
From bad it has become worse, he added.
Claiming that the deployment of dozens of companies of Central forces won't bring any positive change until the BJP Governments at the Centre and the State show commitment to end the violence, Dr Nimaichand said that the complete lawlessness in the State has been highlighted by the Supreme Court in the recent hearing on Manipur violence too.
How much more bloodshed and killings will take place in Manipur under the double-engine BJP Government, the JD (U) spokesman questioned.
The Assembly session called on August 21 is not related to the ongoing crisis and it only aims to prevent dissolution of the House, he claimed and added that what people want is for the Government to convene the session while the monsoon session of the Parliament is underway and take a collective decision on the State's integrity.
Meanwhile, Dr Nimaichand claimed that there may be foreigners among the Kuki narco-terrorists who are waging a war against the Meiteis as the Solicitor General have submitted before the Supreme Court that most of the bodies lying unclaimed in the morgues in Manipur are of infiltrators.
He also said the JD (U) strongly condemns the killing of three sleeping persons including a father-son duo at Kwakta by Kuki militants in the wee hours of August 5 .
It was purely cowardice and the trait of a terrorist, Dr Nimaichand added.
JD (U) State unit vice-president Dr Kh Loken asked if the BJP Governments have a secret agenda to prolong the violence in Manipur.
There is no respite from violence, killing and arson despite the deployment of Central security forces, Dr Loken said and asked how the Kuki militants were able to pass through all the Central forces at the sensitive area and committed the heinous crime at Kwakta yesterday.
It seems like the Government is only watching the violence that has been taking place in Manipur since the past few months, he claimed.
