Imphal, November 02 2023:
Confusion ensued amongst the general public after authorities concerned issued curfew orders, either for imposition or relaxation, in the valley districts immediately one after the other without prior information.
On Thursday, the curfew in Imphal West district was relaxed from 10 am till 5 pm and from 10 am till 6 pm in Imphal East district.
However, as the curfew relaxation order was issued all of a sudden, no shops in and around Khwairamband Keithel were opened and the roads remain deserted.
Although schools/colleges were exempted, some school vans did not come to pick up students, while parents/guardians also did not send their wards to schools due to concerns and confusion.
As such, the attendance in schools/colleges was low for the day.
It may be mentioned here that following the killing of SDPO Chingtham Anand (DSP) at Moreh, the district magistrates of Imphal East and West imposed total curfew on Wednesday night to prevent any law and order problem.
However, the district administrations later relaxed the curfew in Imphal East and Imphal West districts from 10 am till 6 pm and from 10 am till 5 pm respectively.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle in this regard, one cloth store owner in Paona Bazar pointed out that the authorities' way of issuing curfew orders suddenly is causing massive confusion amongst the people.
The owner conveyed that they were not planning to open the store due to the curfew but came across the relaxation order on social media a little after 10 am on Thursday.
Even if there was an intention to open the store, they decided not to do so as all the shops remained closed, the owner said, while adding that the sudden orders are heavily impacting small business owners and traders.
