Inundation of standing paddy crops worries farmers

Farmer of Khangabok village whose farms are located at Bihu, Salam, Keipha and Umarou Loukol, and other farmlands are worried as around 2000 'Pari' of standing paddy crop in these areas are inundated and unlikely to be harvested.
The farmers are presently involved in cleaning up the Thambal Angangbi Canal situated at the centre of the said agriculture fields to drain the excess water along with seeking government's help in addressing the issue.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of dredging the canal with support from caretaker pradhans of Khangabok and Zilla Parishad caretaker members on Thursday, Loumi Lup president Khundrakpam Momon informed that the standing paddy crop which are nearing harvest have been inundated, consequently compelling the local farmers to drain the water by cleaning up the Canal.
Mentioning that the said canal has become densely vegetated, he urged the local MLA and authority concerned to address the issue by proving a long lasting solution.
On the other hand, one Moirangthem Zilla said that the farmers are unable to harvest their paddy due to waterlogging.
