Imphal, November 02 2023:
As many as six student organisations including MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS have categorically stated that Kuki militant groups under SoO agreement should be held accountable for the ambush of State forces on October 31 after the SDPO of Moreh police Chingtham Anand Kumar was killed.
In the aftermath of the SDPO's killing, combing operation was carried out at Moreh and it was reported that Kuki militants under SoO agreement were not found at their designated camps, according to a joint statement issued by the six student bodies.
Absence of Kuki militants from their designated camps has testified beyond doubt that they are directly involved in the ongoing aggression against the Meitei community.
As such, Kuki militant groups under SoO agreement should be held responsible for the ambush which targeted and injured State forces on their way to Moreh on October 31 and the Government of India should abrogate SoO immediately.
Further, all necessary action which must be taken up against unlawful organisations should be initiated immediately against the Kuki militant groups, the student bodies demanded.
While the Government of India has been holding talks with the Kuki militant groups under SoO agreement, the latter has been continuously attacking Meitei people.
This can mean only two things; either the Government of India is unable to rein in the Kuki militants or New Delhi is complicit in the Kuki aggression, the student bodies asserted.
Absence of Kuki militants from their designated camps is a very serious matter.
The State Government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah must spell out the actions that would be taken up against the Kuki militants who have been openly violating SoO ground rules, they demanded.
If the Government of India chooses to remain silent even after knowing well that Kuki militants have been attacking innocent people by openly violating SoO ground rules, there is every reason to assume that the protracted violence was instigated by the Government of India under a tacit understanding with the Kuki militants, further alleged the student bodies.
