Senapati district police seized 47 soap cases containing 608 grams of brown sugar but the drug peddler managed to flee from the spot toward Pudunamei-Kedima road under Mao police station this morning.
A team of Mao police station was checking vehicles at Pudunamei along Pudunamei-Kedima road around 6 Kms East of Mao police station when a van coming from the direction of Senapati towards Nagaland stopped some 100 metres away from the police team.
On seeing the police team, the driver stopped the vehicle and quickly ran toward the nearby jungle in a suspicious manner, leaving the van behind, sources informed.
The police team went to the vehicle and conducted a thorough search leading to the recovery of drugs which were concealed in both the rear doors.
Subsequently, the DC Senapati was intimated and requested to depute one Magistrate to the spot for necessary procedure.
After the arrival of an Executive Magistrate (ADM Mao), the vehicle was thoroughly checked and 47 soap cases containing brown sugar were found concealed in both the rear doors of the van.
The brown sugar packed in the soap cases were weighed in presence of the Executive Magistrate and its weight was found to be 608 grams (without the weight of the soap cases) .
The police team then seized the drugs along with the van with Nagaland registration number and its key and registration certificate by observing necessary formalities.
Mao police have registered a regular FIR case under ND&PS Act for further investigation.
