29 special polling stations for IDPs: DEO Kirankumar

Imphal, April 12 2024: The Returning Officer of 1 - Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency (1-IMPC) and District Election Officer (DEO), Imphal West Th Kirankumar said there will be 29 special polling stations (SPS) for the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency for the first phase election to the 18th Lok Sabha on April 19.Briefing the media at DEO Imphal West court room on Friday, Kirankumar highlighted the preparations and measures taken up by office of the DEO to ensure a smooth voting experience for the electors.

He informed that Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency (IMPC) consists of a total of 32 ACs and there will be a total of 1,319 polling stations.

In addition, there will be 29 Special Poll ing Stations in 1-IMPC for Internally Displaced People (IDPs) .

In Imphal West district alone, there will be 145 women - manned polling stations and 13 model polling stations.

IMPC will have a total of 9,91,574 electors, of which 3,81,902 are from Imphal West.

There is a total of 9,541 service voters, out of which 3,162 voters are from Imphal West.

Moreover, there is a total of 5,021 Absentee Voters (AVES, PwD & 85+) out of which 1,998 voters are from Imphal West.

It can also be mentioned that the home visit for postal ballot in respect of Imphal West will commence from April 14, the DEO stated, while adding that all postal ballot of the four districts of 1-IMPC will come to the office of RO, 1-IMPC at DEO, Imphal West.

He also explained that the measures to be taken up at polling stations to ensure smooth polling includes deployment of micro-observers, 100 per cent coverage by videography, webcams, CCTVs.

Imphal West Superintendent of Police, (SP) Ksh Shivakanta Singh, ADMs and other top officials of DEO, Imphal West, also took part in the press meet.

The second Randomisation and Commissioning of EVMs and VVPATs have been completed for 1-IMPC.The opening of the Strong Room will be done on April 18 at 6 am and the closing on the next day after receipt.

The DEO has also commenced the second round of Inspection of Expenditure Registers on Friday and the third round of inspection is scheduled on April 16.The District Election Of fice has also taken up special measures to ease the traffic on dispersal day i.e., April 18.The DEO, Imphal West and SP imphal West together sought the cooperation and understanding from the public to ensure a smooth and successful polling of 1-IMPC.They assured all that the authorities are putting up their best efforts to garner the confidence of the electors to come out freely and exercise their valuable voting rights.

He continued that dry day will be announced two days prior to voting day and a public holiday declared for both central and state governments on voting day.

The DEO has also commenced the Second Round of Inspection of Expenditure Registers on April 12 and the Third Round of Inspection is scheduled on April 16.The DEO has also taken up special measures to ease the traffic on Dispersal Day i.e., April 18, with regard to the flow of traffic and regulations in and around DC Office, Lamphelpat.

In addition, there is restriction on gathering of masses except for the voters within 100 metres of the polling station on polling day.

SP Ksh Shivakanta informed that there has been rise on deposits of weapons possessed by the public ahead of the polls.

So far, 40 per cent of arms have been deposited.

Apart from drives being conducted to seize liquors, in compliance with the Model Code of Conduct, a Quick Response Team of central and state forces has been constituted to deal with unwanted election related incidents, he added.
