Opposition parties decry security excesses, suggest mass resignation
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, September 28 2023: Ten opposition parties have raised strong objection to use of excessive force against student protestors and said that the time has come for all the politicians to resign from their respective parties and fight for protecting the territorial integrity and identity of Manipur while urging the ruling MLAs in Delhi to return.

Addressing a press meet on Thursday, JD-U state chief spokesperson Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that no politician can contest elections in the absence of public and no use for any political party when Manipur is gone.

The BJP MLAs have no reason left to stay in the party as the state is burning.

It is time for all the politicians to resign from their respective political parties and stand united with the people to protect the state's territory and identity, he said.

The former MLA said that legislators of the ruling alliance stationing in Delhi would not get an appointment to meet the Prime Minister and contended that even if they get the nod, PM Modi will not take up any measure to control the violence in the state.

Further stating that it is no more time to request the PM and the home minister, he also opined that as the government can no longer end the violence it is up to the people of the state to end it for which the 10 opposition parties are ready.

The opposition parties are even ready to sever ties between state politics and central politics if required, he affirmed and added that BJP is only caring for its Own position.

It has been almost five months since people of the state have been raising their voices for restoration peace.

However, the governments, both in the state and at the centre, seem to be waiting for the violence to deescalate on its own.

As ruling MLAs are waiting for their turn to meet the union home minister, Amit Shah is conducting meeting with the 10 Kuki MLAs and Kuki militant groups discussing their demands, he pointed out.

Dr Nimaichand also said that the CBI director is coming to the state only after the CM's request to Amit Shah and it is sad to see the state government feeling powerless under the tight rein of the Central government.

Decrying the murder of the two students, Dr Nimaichand said that the opposition parties met with the bereaved families and shared their pain.

It is highly unacceptable for security forces to use excessive force against the students, who were simply protesting against the cold-blooded murder of the two students.

BJP is the main reason for prolonging the violence in the state even though the government could easily control the situation in a couple of days.

The government stood in silence when Kuki mobs started vandalism, arson and assault in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts on May 3.Sending a strong force could have controlled the situation and averted the violence from spreading, he said while terming it as a total failure of the government.

Dr Nimaichand also decried the Prime Minister, who spoke against the viral video of two Kuki women paraded naked, but remaining silent on the viral photos of the two students murdered by armed Kuki militants.

Even the chief minister attended a protest against the May 4 case, he recalled, while slamming BJP for its double standard policy.

Former minister I Hemochandra also expressed strong condemnation against the murder of the two students and asked Kuki CSOs and ITLF the reason for their silence.

Instead of condemning the murder, Kuki CSOs organised a protest rally against CBI investigation into the case.

They even tried to spread disinformation calling the photos as fake.

Proactive measures from the government on May 3 could have averted the disaster, he maintained.

Decrying the excessive force used against student protestors, Hemochandra said that one of the students is now going to lose one arm.

Holding the CM responsible for allowing to use excessive force against the students, the former minister asked why the CM restricted the students in uniform who simply wanted to carry out a peaceful protest while allowing thousands of women to gather in front of his bungalow on the day of his so-called resignation.

There was no magistrate during the security crackdown and no women personnel could be seen to control the girl students, he pointed out.

Calling N Biren as the most incompetent CM in the history of Manipur, who could not even speak up to the union home minister, he asked Biren to think why people are mocking at him (CM) openly.
