Imphal, September 28 2023:
Keeping in view of the failure to control the violence at the nib, rescue the two students and control the violence for nearly five months, the only option left to save Manipur is for the CM to resign and facilitate a hew government, said ex-MLA RK Anand.
Addressing a press meet at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai here on Thursday, RK Anand said that the government did not take up any measure to search and rescue the two students even after the family members filed missing report.
While stating that every student community from across the globe should condemn the incident, he insisted that CM Biren, Who also holds the charge of home, should be held accountable for the crisis in the state.
Even though he came out as one of the torch bearers of a new Manipur, Biren has failed today, particularly in taking action against perpetrators of the crime.
There is dual administration in the state and the only solution lies in his resignation, he said.
The former MLA further said that the CM seems to be blaming the Meetei community for the violence.
Recalling the gathering of women in front of his bungalow on the day of his 'resignation drama', RK Anand questioned the rationality of using excessive forces against student protestors and opined that instead of using extreme mob control measures, which left over 170 injured, the CM could have met and pacified the students.
People of the state are raising their voice to uphold the legacy of their forefathers, national character of Manipur.
There is no need to keep relying on BJP just because maximum of Meetei are Hindu.
The older generations should take the lead and leave a safe space for the younger generations, he said.
Ex-MLA L Jayantakumar also condemned the excessive force used by central security forces and state police against the student protestors.
The CM, who used to be known for his strong words, is now doing nothing to control the crisis except for banning internet.
All the security forces in the state are under his command and yet, he has failed to utilise them to restore peace.
Despite his assurance to safeguard the territory of Manipur, the CM has not been able to cross Moirang, Pallel and Sekmai.
While taking an oath at BT Park holding an axe, Biren pledged to never bring another incident like June 18.Today, people are asking where those tears have gone and where are his sentiments.
People would have supported him if he warmly welcomed the protestors and heard their grievances instead of using brute force, Jayantakumar reasoned.
