AMBA condemns arson attempt on Cheirap court

Strongly condemning arson attempt on Cheirap court complex and DC Imphal West complex on Wednesday night, All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) said whomsoever took part the arson attempt do not love Manipur.
Addressing media persons at Cheirap court complex Thursday, AMBA president P Tomcha Meetei said some people attempted to torch the historic Cheirap court complex and DC Imphal West complex on Wednesday night using petrol bombs.
When canteen inside the court complex got fire in the arson attempt, people doused the flame and prevented damage to the historic court complex which has been in existence before the British came to Manipur, Tomcha said adding that many important and precious documents are stored in the court complex.
Accoridng to Tomcha, the ongoing violence in Manipur cannot be taken lightly and it is very clear that the Kukis triggered the violence With the hidden agenda to disintegrate Manipur in the name of opposing ST status to the Meitei/Meetei community.
He said that destroying key institutions like Cheirap court complex will be akin to aiding those trying to disintegrate Manipur.
Tomcha also said that AMBA strongly condemns excessive action of security forces against protestors, particularly young students who came out to the streets demanding justice for two minor students allegedly killed by Kuki militants.
During the two days of intense agitation, hundreds of students including juveniles were injured, he said adding that FIR must be filed against security personnel who used excessive action and punished them according to law.
AMBA general secretary Maisnam Jonny, who also attended the press conference, said students and people are compelled to launch agitation as government could not deliver justice to two missing students.
