Imphal, September 28 2023:
Veteran politician Okram Joy has slammed the BJP government for prolonged imposition of curfew, internet shutdown and registering FIR against dissenting voices, and said that such governance will not last long.
Addressing a press meet on Thursday, Joy raised strong condemnation against the government for its inability to take a resolution for protecting the state and excessive use of force against civilian and student protestors.
During his meeting with families of the two students who were killed by armed Kuki militants, 0 Joy said he was informed that the government did nothing to trace the students despite filing missing person report.
While lamenting that the government is unable to recover and hand over their bodies to the families, he strongly condemned use of excessive forces against student protestors, who were simply carrying out protest rally denouncing the heinous crime and demanded to book all personnel of state police and central security forces responsible for causing injuries to unarmed student protestors.
He also said that all the political parties and MLAs in the ruling front have the responsibility to control the situation and restore peace in the state and slammed the Speaker of the state legislative assembly for not taking up any action against the 10 Kuki MLAs, who openly spoke for disintegrating the state.
Former minister N Mangi, who was also present at the press meet, said that the two students could have been rescued if there was no internet shutdown.
The government should bear all the responsibilities.
Questioning the village chiefs and leaders of village authorities of the nearby villages would easily bring out the truth, he pointed out.
Mangi also strongly condemned the assault on students inside the complex of Heecham Yaicham Pat on Wednesday while comparing the incident as another Jallianwala Bagh.
