Imphal, September 28 2023:
In a powerful display of unity and advocacy, the Meetei Diaspora in Europe rallied in support of IPSA vice-president and COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba by staging a sit-in-demonstration at the Manifest Ground of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, adjacent to the iconic Broken Chair.
According to a press statement issued by IPSA, the event held on September 27 garnered extensive participation from Meetei Diaspora members hailing from various corners of Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
During the demonstration, influential speakers took the stage, addressing critical issues central to the cause, notably the Manipur violence and the growing concern of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorism.
Among the distinguished speakers were Khuraijam Athouba, European Manipuri Association (EMA) president Sagolsem Biramani, EMA member Okram Bishwajit, and London based Meetei student Yaikhomba Sagolshem.
Yaikhomba drew attention to the recent dissemination of distressing images related to tragic incidents involving Meetei students Linthoingambi and Hemanjit.
Following the demonstration, a seven-member delegation from the Meetei Diaspora in Europe led by Khuraijam Athouba visited the United Nations campus, coinciding with the 54th Session of the Human Rights Council.
The delegation diligently distributed informative pamphlets and brochures shedding light on the ongoing Manipur violence, the pressing issue of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorism, and the emerging Golden Triangle within the campus.
Their aim was to raise awareness and garner support for their cause on an international platform.
Khuraijam Athouba and his team have outlined plans to submit a comprehensive fact report addressing these pressing issues to various forums and the concerned rapporteurs of the United Nations in the coming days, ensuring the concerns of the Meetei community are heard and acted upon.
