Protests held to denounce murder of Linthoingambi, Hemanjit

Imphal, September 28 2023:
Protest demonstrations were held in different districts and otitside the state demanding justice for the two students Linthoingambi and Hemanjit, who were killed in captivity of armed Kuki militants and also in condemnation of the excessive action of security forces on protesting students.
Sit-in protests were staged on Thursday at EYDA community hall, Heingang Mayai Leikai Tayenjam community hall, Khundrakpam Lai Panganba Laibung, Lilong Higher Secondary School, Khekman Zilla Keithel, Lilong New Market, Angtha Mamang Leikai and at Lamjao Mayai Leikai community hall, Kakching.
Meanwhile, a rally was taken out by students and locals in Kakching Khunou area on Thursday denouncing the murder of the two students.
The rally organised by Monitoring Committee, Kakching Khunou started from Kakching Khunou Keithel and after passing through Kakching Khunou Lamkhai culminated at Kakching Khunou Lamkhai Burma Sugnu road where a sit-in protest was staged.
Sit in protests were also staged at Keibi, Konjeng Langpoklakpam Leikai, Sagolband Khuraijam Leikai & Wangthonbi Leikai, Sagolband Tera Tong bram Leikai and Takyel Kolom Leikai.
Similarly, DM University students staged sit-in protest at the Main Gate and carried out a silent protest along NH-2.On the other hand, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) student staged sit-in protest at Jubilee Hall condemning high-handedness of security forces against democratically protesting students.
Meanwhile, Hatta Golapati Youth Volunteer Organisation organised a rally demanding justice for Hemanjit and Linthoingambi and restoration of peace in the state at Hatta Golapati on Thursday evening.
The rally intended to proceed towards the CM Bungalow from Konung Mamang intercepted and dispersed by the security forces near Sanjenthong through use of tear gas leading to injuries suffered by 10 people.
On the other hand, a mob tried to burn office of DC Imphal West on Wednesday night.
The mob entered the office complex and set on fire two cars parked there as the security forces fired tear gas shells to control and dispel the crowd from the area preventing further damage.
Meanwhile, a torch rally was taken out in Khurai area on Wednesday night condemning the murder of two students as Women Action for Development (WAD) condemned killing of the two students and demanded punishment of the culprits as per the law.
In a release, WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam also condemned use of excessive force by security forces on protesting students, On the other hand, Manipur Diaspora Association Chandigarh & Manipur Students' Association, Chandigarh, and Manipur Students' Union, Phagwara, held candle light vigil and observed a two-minute silence against the killing of the two students at Student Centre, Punjab University and in Jalandhar, Punjab respectively.
During the protests, the agitators demanded swift justice for the two murdered students and called the rally taken out in Churachandpur against CBI investigation into the case as unfortunate along with holding placards and chanting slogans denouncing the brutal act of security forces on the protesting students.
