Crackdown on student protestors reaches UN

Excessive action of security forces against protestors including students in Manipur have reached the United Nations (UN) platform as the matter was raised at the 54th United Nations Human Rights Council session held at Geneva, Switzerland.
The matter was raised during the session on 'Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and related intolerance' as well as during the 'Durban Declaration and Programme of Action' session of the 54th United Nations Human Rights Council.
Association for Integration and Sustainable Development in Burundi representative Kh Phajaton raised the matter and placed factual accounts of violent acts of Indian armed forces in Manipur particularly the brutal action against unarmed student protestors recently.
She said that more than 1,000 people were injured in excessive action of security forces in Manipur in the past five months with around 50 suffering serious wounds.
Indigenous Peoples of Africa Co-ordinating Committee representative U Jennison, who took part the session, said that 175 unarmed students protesting the killing of Linthoingambi and Hemanjit were injured on a single day in excessive action of armed forces.
He also drew attention of the council to communicate with the Government of India to arrest and award punishment to all the culprits involved in the killing of the two students.
