Imphal, October 07 2023:
Forum for Restoration of Peace, Manipur (FRPM) has appealed to all citizens to shun any kind of mob violence in the State.
Addressing a press briefing held this afternoon after an interaction programme among community leaders on the theme "Prevailing Situation in Manipur '' at Hotel Imphal, convenor of FRPM Ashang Kasar said mob violence should be stopped, be it in the valley or the hills.
Ashang said rule of law is fundamental to any State.
Instead of indulging in "mob justice", it should be the endeavour of all conscious citizens to approach rule of law for justice, he said.
Maintaining that provocative or spiteful or misleading statements should be avoided, specially in such a volatile State's atmosphere, Ashang Kasar also called upon all communities to work towards restoring peace and normalcy.
FRPM has been actively engaged in peace restoration work in Imphal since the outbreak of the communal clash and at times acted to diffuse highly charged atmosphere among communities by conducting consultative meetings, he said while stressing on the need of dialogue among civil leaders of the feuding communities to bring about peace and normalcy.
He also maintained that there will be no end to the State's turmoil if exchange of hateful and upsetting remarks are not stopped at the earliest.
Ashang Kasar also underscored the need for rethinking before indulging in acts of intimidation, assault and vandalism in response to "false statements' ' by anybody amidst the turmoil as it could sharply discourage personalities advocating for State's causes.
Highlighting the immense hardships faced by communities residing in the State over the past five months owing to the prolonged chaotic situation, Ashang Kasar appealed to the State Government to lead in initiating dialogue for restoration of peace by inviting all CSOs and community leaders.
