Meet held to maintain buffer zone, prevent fighting

Attended by Churachandpur DC Dharun Kumar and SP Karthik Malldi, a security coordination meeting was held on Saturday at Torbung market from 11 am to primarily find out ways to maintain buffer zone effectively and prevent the communities in conflict from confronting each other.
During the meeting, district officials appealed to the people to help security forces in the recovery of 400 weapons stolen/snatched and urged for maintaining maximum restraint as security personnel from both hills and valley will maintain the buffer zone.
The meeting was attended by around 40/50 village chiefs of Kangvai sub-division and Henglep areas which lie contiguous with Kangvai.
They highlighted problems being faced in getting food supply, bad road condition and lack of security to defend their villages.
During the meeting, DC Dharun Kumar stated that the district administration in coordination with CSOs and NGOs have distributed 18,000 bags of rice, 5000 bags of dal, 3000 bags of potato, 2000 bags of onion, 8000 mosquito nets, 7000 blankets, 3000 pillow cover, and 3000 bed sheets besides making arrangement for firewood, water and other necessities for relief camps opened in the district.
He also said that various skill development programmes have been taken up for the displaced people taking shelters in relief camps.
According to Dharun Kumar, the district administration has taken up steps for regen eration of documents for displaced people so that they could avail certain benefits from the government.
He further said 10 companies of BSF have been deployed in the district and they are assigned duties at various locations.
Officials from BSF, RAF and other central forces, CRPF and Assam Rifles also attended the security coordination meeting.
