Thoubal, October 07 2023:
A peace rally was taken out by senior citizens on Saturday demanded solution to the present conflict and restoration of peace in the state.
The rally organised by Thoubal and Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) began from Khongjom Bazar community hall and culminated at Khongjom War Memorial Complex, where the rallyists paid floral tributes ('Tarpan') at Khongjom river to those who attained martyrdom in the ongoing conflict.
Later, a public meeting was held at the community hall and adopted a resolution which was then submitted in the form of a memorandum by TAKDAL members to President Droupadi Mur-mu through Thoubal deputy commissioner Ahanthem Subash.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the rally, TAKDAL chairman Yengkhom Bheighachandra emphasised that as the conflict is spiralling and no one seems to be doing anything to contain it, people should understand their roles in the present issue.
He continued that even after five months, the government has failed to normalise the situation.
What it requires is one effective measure from the present government to resolve the matter, but there is growing confusion amongst the public on what the government or ministers and MLAs are doing about it.
Hence, it is very important they should come out with their view to the public so that a concrete decision to resolve the crisis could be taken, the chairman further emphasised.
During the rally, the participants held placards inscribed with slogans like "Leaders should wake up", "Restore peace & normalcy", "Don't divide Manipur", etc.
